Garden Critters and Other Dangerous Treasures

Nothing surprises me more than garden treasures that pop up catch my eye!  Which brings me to my topic of safety…we all pick up neat garden artifacts to put into our gardens to make them our own unique places – however
unless you do all your own gardening, please remember to alert your gardener as to where your special treasures are placed.

Today’s garden maintenance may include whipper-snipping, push mowers and tractor ride-ons, and the work is often done swiftly and efficiently!  We gardeners know our craft and how long a job site aspect of work will take.  But if you do not tell us about newly placed garden decorations in advance, our work can turn from satisfying to downright dangerous.  Objects of garden delight and fancy can be weapons of destruction to the unprepared grass cutter – damage and pain once the whipper snipper or push mower pulls them into the spinning or rotation of the equipment and then they fly outward or upward!

So think safety first before you add the garden art, or better yet, make sure it is clearly visible …accidents do happen but many can be avoided.  Always ask yourself – could anyone get harmed if I put this cute item here?  If the answer is “yes” then find a better location, for example, that perfect spot where objects are clearly visible and everyone gets to enjoy them…and your gardener stays safe and happy.
