Life is Short -- Take Fridays off!

Downtime- we all need it, yet some of us never take time to smell the roses!!!  I speak from experience - I have great work skills - grew up on a farm where you completed a task and were tired out - they  had more for you to do!  So needless to say it has been beat into my head to constantly be in work mode!  I have done this for many years.  Even to this day I am constantly trying to stay caught up, constatly working with mother nature and constantly wearing myself out!!!  Stupid rain for a good portion of the week here on the Island, which meant
this man worked all weekend instead of getting some R & R which I need.   Then, to stay ahead of the rain, my summer student and I started at 7:30 this morning and did get our work done and finished an hour short of what we normally do because of the rains.

But at the end of the day I am more wore out than if I took the day as a rain day!!!

So how many people out there are just like me?  I am 46 going on 47 in January and I feel every ache and pain and yet I continue on like
I was 20 something!  I've got to slow myself down or I will wake up dead in some client's garden, even though that is the way I hope to go out.  But I think at my age it may be too soon to check out just yet!

Summer is short here on the Island, yet our falls are great, which extends our season of heat and sunshine into cooler air and warm days.  But fall is my super busy time with school picture taking, which means the worst (work wise) is yet to come!  Anyone have any suggestions on ways to realx for us workaholics???

I 'm going to begin taking Friday afternoons off starting next week, and I'm going to make myself not work on Sundays no matter if it's
going to rain Monday or not.  Why???  Because life is too short and the work will still be there waiting for me when I get to it...Now if I can only follow that rule.  I will keep you posted.

I put my hammock up two weeks ago and have yet to even try it out once this season.  That's just plain wrong!!!  Those are my thoughts on downtime...enjoy them and take them, or if you snooze then we lose and I am too old for all this crap (work - work and work) all because I grew up on a farm - gee thanks dad - and I wonder why we don't see eye to eye thse days.  Funny now that I think back.  Dear old dad took off at every chance he could to run into town, or got side tracked while we were all left to continue to work!!!  Guess he was smarter than I thought!!!
